UP CIFAL Philippines holds road safety seminar for grade schoolers

ANTIPOLO, RIZAL—As part of its advocacy to promote road safety awareness, UP CIFAL Philippines held a seminar for 70 students of Isaias Tapales Elementary School on October 19, 2018.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show that children aged 5-14 years are among the most vulnerable from road crashes and deaths.

UP CIFAL Philippines program officer Christine Sanchez introduced the sustainable development goals (SDGs) to the students, focusing on SDG 3: good health and well-being. Target 3.6 aims to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents by 2020.

Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association taught the students proper road behavior by introducing the basic traffic rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, Honda Safety Driving Center presented the consequences of road traffic injuries.

Finally, John Vallinan, a transport safety application engineer of 3M Philippines, stressed the importance of standardized road signs to help road users, especially students, make safe road choices.
