UP-CIFAL Philippines, Foreign Affairs Department hold 2nd graduation ceremony for Professional Course on Global Migration

19 December 2019, PASAY CITY, PHILIPPINESꟷUP-CIFAL Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs-Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs (DFA-OUMWA), held a graduation ceremony for the second batch of learners of the Professional Course on Global Migration.

Assisted by UP-CIFAL Philippines Director Dr. Edna Co, UP Executive Vice President Teodoro Herbosa awarded the certificates to 20 senior-level officers involved in migration work from the DFA, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Department of Labor and Employment, House of Representatives and Department of Health (DOH).

The learners presented their capstone projects which integrate lessons from the professional course and their proposed migration development policies and practice as innovation. Among others, the capstone projects include DFA’s promotion of the adoption of the Global Compact for Migration in addressing development, House of Representatives’ initiative on capacity-building on migration for legislators, and DOH’s establishment of medical facilities for overseas workers and seafarers.

Launched in August 2019, the Professional Course on Global Migration aims to serve as a continuing education for migration practitioners interested in comparative and pragmatic approach to the challenges in migration governance.
