Title: Lessons from International Elections: Resiliency Measures to Ensure the 2022 Philippine Elections
Date: 25 November 2020 (Wednesday)
Time: 1:30 PM (Manila time)
Description: The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the economic, social, and political conditions of countries around the world. With more than 20 million cases, the pandemic has affected over 200 countries, caused over 900,000 deaths, and has left millions in dire economic situations. The pandemic has also curtailed political institutions and important democratic processes, forcing a hundred countries to postpone their elections. Despite these, some countries have opted to push through under strict safety and health measures.
With the 2022 Philippine national and national and local elections fast approaching, it is important to prepare necessary safeguards to ensure its conduct amidst the many challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, UP CIFAL Philippines, the Ateneo School of Government, and International IDEA organize a webinar entitled “Lessons from International Elections: Resiliency Measures to Ensure the 2022 Philippine Elections” on 25 November 2020 at 1:30 PM via Zoom.
It will feature key government institutions and officials involved in the upcoming elections such as the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the House of Representatives Committee on Suffrage. The webinar also invites an electoral process and political participation specialist to share insights about the international experience of conducting elections under a pandemic and a medical expert to discuss health and safety measures that must be pursued to ensure safe elections.
The webinar aims to promote a level of confidence among Filipino voters that they can participate in such an important political exercise that is crucial in shaping the governance of the country.
