UNITAR offers online courses for special topics on sustainable dev’t

UNITAR is offering online courses on special topics in sustainable development, particularly on renewable energies, resilience action planning, and sustainable urban mobility. Sessions of the e-learning course will be held from September to December of 2017.

Renewable Energies for Sustainable Development

This course aims to enhance the capacity of local decision makers, energy/sustainable development officers and other personnel to make an informed decision on which renewable energy technologies will meet their own needs or the needs of their countries, communities, villages or neighbourhoods. It provides an overview of clean, secure and sustainable technology options and offers insights into the management of renewable energy projects, from small scale, through to major projects.

Resilience Action Planning – Implementing the Sendai Framework at the Local Level

This e-learning course aims to strengthen the capacities of government officials, especially those at the local level, and disaster management professionals to design and implement plans and programmes that reduce disaster risk and enhance resilience.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Raise awareness about the Making Cities Resilient (MRC) Campaign;
  • Identify initiatives and best practices on how to integrate disaster risk reduction and climate change adoption into urban planning;
  • Assess the risk management situation in their cities by using urban indicators;
  • Develop a safe and resilient country/city action plan;
  • Analyze the purpose and the goals of the Sendai Framework for DRR (2015-2030)

Sustainable Urban Mobility in Developing Countries

This online course, based on the material jointly developed by GIZ and UNITAR, is designed to provide answers to the abovementioned questions, as well as solutions and alternative approaches in the area of urban transport planning that target a more sustainable transport system in Developing Cities. It aims to enhance the capacity of local decision makers and urban and transportation planners to formulate and implement appropriate policies that contribute to sustainability in urban transport in developing countries.
