Youth Got The Power: Showcasing Youth Action Towards SDGs

In 1999, the UN General Assembly Resolution 54/120 endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers of Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared International Youth Day. Such a day celebrates the fact that the young people of today will grow up alongside the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will experience the success or failure of the 2030 Agenda.

As we draw nearer to 2030, it is imperative that the youth’s role is highlighted to achieve the 2030 Agenda. The youth’s role is highlighted not just as beneficiaries but also as efficient drivers of new and innovative solutions to contemporary challenges where young people could contribute to.

Through education and engagement, it is pivotal that young people are given the platform to build their sense of ownership and continue momentum for global action to ensure that no one is left behind. With the youth at the forefront, the world recognizes their role in all 17 Sustainable Development Goals and specifically contributes to Goal 17,  encouraging effective partnerships.

The UP-CIFAL Philippines organizes the “Youth Got The Power: Showcasing Youth Action Towards the SDGs digital campaign to showcase local youth organizations that take action in order to highlight the key role of youth in achieving the 2030 Agenda. The campaign also celebrates UN’s International Youth Day on August 12.
