UP-CIFAL Philippines Hosts Hybrid Forum ‘LGUs in Action’ to Spotlight Local Innovations for Sustainable Communities

The University of the Philippines-Centre International de Formation des Autorités et Leaders, or the International Center for Authorities and Leaders Philippines (UP-CIFAL Philippines), invites you to their hybrid mayoral forum, “LGUs in Action: Local Innovations for Sustainable Communities” to be held on August 16, 2024 at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center, Quezon City and via Zoom.

Driven by the serious risk and vulnerability of the country, the Philippines is a forerunner in climate change response in the world. The Philippines enacted the Climate Change Act of 2009  (RA 9729), a policy that provides a general framework on how to address the threats of climate change in the country. It highlights the crucial role of the Local Government Units (LGUs) in  managing such risks. After all, it is the local communities that bear the brunt of the tremendous impacts of climate change.

To assist the local governments strengthen their efforts and initiatives in combating climate change and in advancing sustainable development, UP-CIFAL Philippines, serving as a hub for capacity building and research on the interwoven themes of the Sustainable Development Goals, and migration and gender equality, organized the LGUs in Action forum. It is an open discussion that not only highlights the outstanding existing efforts of LGUs across the country but also opens opportunities for sharing of knowledge and creative solutions among various stakeholders.

This forum is in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Greenpeace Philippines, Galing Pook Foundation, UP Resilience Institute, and Ateneo Institute of Sustainability.
