8 May 2025— UP-CIFAL Philippines welcomed a high-level delegation from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) on 8 May 2025, to explore avenues for collaboration on migration research, diaspora engagement, and capacity-building initiatives.
The courtesy visit gathered key representatives from both organizations, including Undersecretary Atty. Ma. Arlene Borja, accompanied by Director Rodrigo Garcia, Jr. and Ms. Angeli Louise Cando from the CFO’s Policy, Planning, and Research Division. UP-CIFAL Philippines Director Michelle Palumbarit, Ph.D, led the engagement and showcased the Centre’s migration and gender portfolio.
The meeting featured a comprehensive presentation by UP-CIFAL staff on its ongoing programs and partnerships, research efforts, and strategic direction. Discussions centered on future collaboration, particularly on joint research, participation in the Professional Course for Global Migration (PCGM), and enhancement of the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) for Filipino migrants.
Director Palumbarit reaffirmed UP-CIFAL’s commitment to supporting CFO’s initiatives, citing common goals in promoting migrant welfare and fostering inclusive sustainable development. The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize the collaboration.
